The city is full-service, with its own police and fire departments, both of which provide round-the-clock protection for its residents, the business community, and visitors. The Montclair Police Department is a municipal law enforcement agency responsible for the delivery of a full range of law enforcement services involving patrol, narcotics investigations, special task force and other specialized services.
The department has evolved into a community-oriented organization employing 55 sworn officers today. The department also employs 38 full and part-time civilian support personnel and 18 volunteers, including eight reserve officers and three chaplains. The goal of maintaining a secure and safe community has led to the City Council support of meeting the expansion needs of a growing police department that has outgrown its existing facility.
